Common boiler issues [2021]

When you experience a sudden issue with your boiler, we know how stressful it can get knowing that you may be left without heating or hot water, especially during periods of cold weather. That's why in this blog post, the team at TPS Heating have listed a few common boiler issues with a few suggestions on how you can fix them so you can get your boiler back up and running in no time.

What to do if your boiler is not responding to your thermostat?

If your boiler fails to respond to your thermostat, this could mean that the controls may have malfunctioned or broken due to old age. Most thermostat controls are battery-powered, so replacing the batteries, should do the trick. Another thing you can also try is to position the thermostat closer to the boiler to limit any chances of interference that could be causing it.

Strange sounds coming from your boiler?

Kettling, gurgling and whistling noises that come from your boiler are actually pretty common, however, if it is a noise you have not heard before or it starts making sounds that are very unusual, then we recommend that you get in touch with a qualified heating engineer. Give our specialists a call on 07595 726546 and we will be happy to help. You should also note that these abnormal sounds usually occur if there is an issue with a faulty pump or low water pressure.

What to do if your boiler has low boiler pressure?

Low pressure is usually caused by leaks or if you have recently bled your radiator. Any signs of leakage should be looked at by a Gas Safe engineer. You can check to see if the pressure on your boiler is low by checking the pressure gauge. It should be set at 1.5 bar however anything below 1 will cause your boiler to not function correctly.
