The Best LPG Boilers For Small, Medium & Large Properties

Imagine you walk into an estate agency and divide properties into three categories: small, medium, and large. LPG boilers are classified the same into  24kw-27kw, 28kw-34kw, and 35kw-42kw categories. Here at TPS heating, we've created a full guide on how to choose the right LPG boiler based on the size of your property check it out below...

A guide to choosing the right LPG Boiler size.

To choose the right LPG boiler for your property you need to work out what size your property so here's some rough guidelines

  • Small Property- 10 or fewer radiators- 1 bathroom you'll need a 24kw-27kw LPG boiler
  • Medium Property- 8-14 radiators- 1-2 bathrooms you'll need a 28kw-34kw LPG boiler
  • Large Property- 14-20 radiators- 2 bathrooms you'll need a 35kw-42kw LPG boiler

There isn't a one-size-fits-all solution here. It's only a guideline.

The goalposts will shift if you want to fill baths quickly, operate taps and showers at the same time, or have a lot of open space, limited insulation, or a conservatory.

That's why getting a quote from an LPG boiler installer is usually a good idea. Not only will an installation be able to specify a boiler based on the size of your home, the number of radiators and showers, but also on your overall need for hot water and heating.

What type of LPG Boiler do you need?

There are 3 types of LPG Boilers Combi, System & Regular.

LPG Combi Boilers

There will be no hot water tank or cylinder in your home. Combination boilers heat water when it is required. The disadvantage is that hot water takes precedence. So, if you take a 20-minute shower and you'll notice a significant reduction in the heat in your home. The most prevalent boiler, therefore, is a condensing LPG combi boiler and they're commonly seen in homes with 1-4 bedrooms that are small to medium in size.

A system or regular boiler is likely to be required if you have a large residence with high hot water demand. Rather than heating water on demand, these pre-heat it. That means you'll have plenty of hot water even if you're running many showers and taps at the same time.

System LPG Boilers

A boiler and a hot water cylinder are combined in a system. As a result, it is appropriate for larger properties (and those with the need to run showers and taps at the same time).

Of course, you'll require storage space for the cylinder. A system boiler is required if you have a boiler and cylinder (but no water storage tank). Check your loft for storage tanks, as here is where they are sometimes installed.

Regular LPG Boiler

A cylinder and a water storage tank are needed for a regular boiler. So you're talking about a significant amount of space here.

A regular boiler is required if you have a cylinder, boiler, and storage tank (which is sometimes built-in loft spaces).
